Phil Jones
Phil Jones is the Chief Technology Officer for Shoden Data Systems UK. In this role he is responsible for devising the Company’s strategy and direction, the product roadmaps, and developing key alliances and partner relationships across EMEA.
With over 25 year experience in developing data storage solutions, Jones’ expertise covers technologies including storage, archiving, data management, capacity planning and technical marketing.
Before joining Shoden UK, Jones held product marketing and management positions at Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) Europe. Between 1999 and 2000, he was European Director of Architecture and Technology, reporting to the VP of Corporate Strategy in California. In this role he was responsible for the developments of storage architectures and the co-ordination of customer requirements in Europe. In 2001 Jones became head of Strategic Planning EMEA, responsible for developing HDS’ broader strategies. A key element of this was compliance, and how best to meet growing European demands for solutions to help with Basel II and the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. In 2003 he was appointed Senior Director, Product Marketing and Management, responsible for all HDS Europe’s strategic product lines.
Prior to his positions at HDS Europe, Jones held systems engineering and sales roles at IBM, where he focussed on the aerospace and insurance industries; at the time he was part of IBM’s UK Storage Marketing Group with responsibility for disk subsystem performance, System Managed Storage, and the enterprise storage subsystems.
Jones is a regular speaker at industry events and has consulted on the broader issues of the new compliance legislation and its impact on future IT investments. He holds an Honours degree in Physics from Imperial College, London. In his spare time he enjoys music and sport.
